Local and distortional buckling behaviour of back-to-back built-up aluminium alloy channel section columns

چکیده

The use of aluminium alloy channel sections is becoming popular in lightweight structures, especially for pillars curtain wall systems and brace chord members roof trusses. In cases where increased axial strength required, it to built-up sections, instead single sections. Back-to-back as compression can be used achieve higher strengths longer spanning capabilities. such an arrangement, intermediate fasteners at discrete points along the length prevent individual from buckling independently. However, no investigative research available on back-to-back This paper presents both experimental numerical investigations behaviour screw fastened stub columns under compression. total, results 15 tests are reported. For all test specimens, initial imperfections were measured using a laser scanner. A nonlinear elasto-plastic finite element (FE) model was then developed validated against results. Thereafter, comprehensive parametric study conducted FE investigate effects modified slenderness, number section thickness 232 models analysed. Axial obtained FEA assess performance current design guidelines offered by Aluminium Design Manual (ADM), Australian/New Zealand Standards (AS/NZS), Eurocode 9 (EC9), Eurocode3 (EC3) American Iron Steel Institute (AISI) standards. It shown that design, accordance with these standards, conservative within 20%, exception allowable stress method mentioned AS/NZS (1664.2:1997). ADM, AISI & (4600:2018) provide highly accurate predictions; being 6% 10% average, respectively.

Local, Distortional, and Euler Buckling of Thin-Walled Columns

Open cross-section, thin-walled, cold-formed steel columns have at least three competing buckling modes: local, distortional, and Euler ~i.e., flexural or flexural-torsional! buckling. Closed-form prediction of the buckling stress in the local mode, including interaction of the connected elements, and the distortional mode, including consideration of the elastic and geometric stiffness at the w...

Local and Distortional Buckling of Cold-Formed Steel Members

Laminar structures have a high post-buckling strength reserve. Cold-formed steel profiles can be taken as a set of thin plate elements. Therefore it is necessary to design this type of profiles taking into account that reserve of strength in post-local buckling modes of failure. The method normally used to design this type of structures is based on the Effective Width concept. The Effective Wid...

From Local to Global and Back Again

This paper considers the cost of preprocessing a digital terrain model (DTM) represented as a trian-gulated irregular network (TIN) so that drainage queries|e.g., what is the watershed of a query point, or how much water passes through a point given that rain is falling at a known rate|can be answered by simply evaluating a summary function. Although the worst-case storage and preprocessing cos...
